The Australian National Broadcaster (ABC television) produced a documentary on their rural “Landline Program”, focusing on Native Citrus. One of the segments focused on the Native Finger Lime and was filmed at Sheryl Rennie’s “ Possum Creek Bushfood” property located in the Byron Bay hinterland area.

Landline focused on the potential of growing the Finger Lime as a commercial enterprise as few farmers had undertaken to explore the viability of this crop. The Finger Lime being endemic to the Northern Rivers of NSW, provides a great opportunity for an environmentally sustainable industry for the region. Sheryl was chosen as she had been growing and marketing Finger Limes for over 8 years and is widely regarded in the bushfood industry as an expert on Finger Limes.

To increase production of the Finger Lime and to grow her business, Sheryl joined up with Georgie MacDougall who had moved from Sydney to the region for a sea change. Georgie was investigating the viability of finger limes and had turned to Sheryl for guidance on how to improve her crop. Both parties soon developed a strong rapport and decided that the combination of Georgie’s business skills and Sheryl’s Horticultural expertise could create a dynamic partnership. Thus the firm ‘Wild Finger Lime’ trading as Citrus Caviar was born.

The company produces premium quality AAA class fruit, currently exporting to Asia and Middle East, winning a number of food awards in Asia this year. To achieve this we have set about to implement horticultural best practice in conjunction with NSW Department of Primary Industry (DPI) and Australian Quarantine Inspection Service(AQIS) specifically in relation to this new bushfood product. All fruit is packed in a HACCP accredited packing shed.

Wild Finger Lime acknowledges the Indigenous (Aboriginal) heritage of the Bushfood industry, and is involved in supporting Indigenous bushfood projects in the area.
